Phrases and reminders
Your own words on the board, and reminders at the time you choose
Add a phrase
- Move the mouse over the clock. Three round buttons appear in the bottom-right corner: click the gear to open Settings.
- Open the Phrases tab and click New phrase.
- Type your phrase and click Add. It shows exactly as you typed it.
If a phrase is too long for the ticker, it still shows on the full board. Once a line fills the board, the box stops taking more letters. You can keep up to 60 lines.
Sort phrases into categories
- Click New category, name it (for example Family) and add phrases to it.
- To move a phrase, open its ⋯ menu and choose Move to, or drag it onto a category heading.
- Each group has a Show on the board switch. The board takes turns with every group that is switched on, so you can switch a whole category off for a while.
- The Built in group holds the phrases FlipMatic comes with. You can hide or delete any of them.
The ⋯ menu on a phrase also lets you edit it, hide it from the board or delete it. After you delete one of your own lines, click Undo right away; a few seconds later it is gone for good. Built-in phrases you delete can be brought back any time with Restore.
Set a reminder
- On the Phrases tab, click New reminder.
- Set the hour and minutes.
- Choose Every day, Weekdays or Just once.
- Type what the board should say, for example PICK UP THE KIDS.
- Click Add reminder. A sentence under the form tells you exactly what will happen.
A quicker way: a phrase that starts with a time, like 16:00 PICK UP THE KIDS, becomes a reminder at that time every day.
When a reminder is due
- The clock turns over to the full board and shows the reminder for a minute, with a soft chime. Then the ticker keeps showing it until it is done.
- Click anywhere or press any key to clear it.
- Reminder repeats decides how often it comes back: 3 times, then gone, Until you touch it or Once only. One reminder can also Stay on the board until I touch it, from its ⋯ menu.
- If nobody cleared it, the ticker shows 1 MISSED until you next touch the computer.
- A Just once reminder switches itself off after it goes off.
Good to know
- A soft chime plays when a reminder is due, even when Sound is off. If Sound is on, you also hear the cards click as the board turns over.
- They go off only while FlipMatic is open on screen, not minimized, and the computer is awake at that minute. A reminder missed that way does not come back later.
- Only one reminder can show in a given minute.
