Screen and sound
Full screen, brightness, burn-in protection and sound
Full screen and window
| To | Windows | Mac |
|---|---|---|
| Go full screen | F, F11 or the Full screen button | F, the green button, or Ctrl+Cmd+F |
| Go back to a window | F, F11 or Esc | F or Ctrl+Cmd+F |
| Move to another monitor | Shift+F11, also in full screen | Drag the window by the empty space around the clock |
FlipMatic remembers its size, position and monitor. If that monitor is unplugged, it opens on one that is there.
Brightness
In Settings › Screen, set Brightness, or press ↑ and ↓. Between 23:00 and 07:00 FlipMatic dims itself a little for the night.
Protect the screen
A picture that never moves can burn into some screens, OLED screens especially. Two settings in Settings › Screen help, and both are on from the start:
| Setting | What it does |
|---|---|
| Dim when idle | Dims the clock after 10 minutes without mouse or keyboard activity on the clock. |
| Protect the screen | Moves the picture very slowly, one pixel at a time, after the same 10 minutes. You will not see it while you use the clock. |
Working in another window counts as time away from the clock. If you turned on reduced motion in Windows or macOS, the picture stays still.
The whole clock also turns over on the hour. See Choose how the digits flip.
Keep the screen awake
While FlipMatic is on screen, the computer does not go to sleep or lock and the screen stays on, so the clock stays on all night. The switch is Keep the screen awake in Settings › Screen. On a computer it is on from the start. On iPhone and iPad it starts off: turn it on, and the screen stays on while FlipMatic is open.
When FlipMatic is minimized or completely covered by other windows, or the switch is off, your power settings decide when the screen turns off:
- Windows 11: open Settings › System › Power & battery (on a desktop, Power) and set when the screen turns off and when the computer sleeps. On Windows 10 it is Settings › System › Power & sleep.
- Mac: open System Settings › Lock Screen and set when the display turns off. On macOS 12 and earlier, use System Preferences › Battery or Energy Saver.
Menus and font
In Settings › Screen, Menus sets the color of Settings and the theme library: Follow the board, Dark or Light. Font lists the typefaces on your computer that suit the clock.
Sound
Sound is off at first. Press M or use the Sound button that appears with the mouse, and every card clicks as it lands. To change how loud it is, type Volume in the Settings search box. Sound pauses while the window is minimized.
