Troubleshooting
Find what you see, and what to do about it
Windows says “Windows protected your PC”
Windows shows this for apps it does not know yet. If you downloaded FlipMatic from flipmatic.app, click More info, then Run anyway. Download FlipMatic only from flipmatic.app.
macOS says FlipMatic cannot be opened
Open System Settings › Privacy & Security, scroll down and click Open Anyway, then confirm. On macOS 14 and earlier, Control-click the app and choose Open. You only need to do this once.
A message says WebView2 is not installed
FlipMatic needs Microsoft Edge WebView2, a free part of Windows. Let FlipMatic open Microsoft's page, install it from there, then open FlipMatic again.
A theme in my library is not in FlipMatic
- In FlipMatic, open Themes. If the Installed tab offers Connect to my library, this computer is not connected yet: choose it and connect in your browser.
- Switch to FlipMatic: it looks for new themes when you open it or switch to it, and about once an hour while it runs. It needs an internet connection to download them.
Connect FlipMatic does nothing
- Check that FlipMatic is installed on this computer. The button opens the app; it cannot install it.
- Your browser asks whether to open FlipMatic. If you said no, click the button again and allow it.
“Theme download failed”
Check your internet connection and click Install again. If the message says the theme has been altered, it did not come from FlipMatic: open it again from flipmatic.app.
The weather does not show
- Check that both Show the ticker and Weather are on, in Settings › Board.
- Check that a city is chosen in Location. If it says No match, try the Latin spelling.
- The weather needs an internet connection. Give it a few minutes after you turn it on.
A reminder did not show
- FlipMatic has to be open on screen, not minimized, and the computer awake, at that minute.
- Check that the reminder is switched on. A Just once reminder switches itself off after it goes off.
- Only one reminder can show in a given minute.
The screen turns off or the computer sleeps
Check that Keep the screen awake is on in Settings › Screen. It works while FlipMatic is on screen: minimized or completely covered by other windows, your power settings apply again. See Keep the screen awake.
The clock got darker
After 10 minutes without mouse or keyboard activity on the clock, Dim when idle dims it; moving the mouse brings it back. Between 23:00 and 07:00 FlipMatic also dims itself a little for the night, on its own. Check that Brightness is at 100 percent.
The whole clock flips every hour
That is the default, and it helps protect the screen. To flip only the digit that changes, type Clock flips in the Settings search box and choose Only the digit.
The picture moved slightly
That is Protect the screen, which moves the picture one pixel at a time after 10 minutes without mouse or keyboard activity on the clock.
Keyboard shortcuts do nothing
With a Hebrew, Arabic, Russian or other non-Latin keyboard layout, switch to English. Then click the clock, so you are not typing in a box.
Some letters show as blank cards
The board can only draw the letters of the language it is set to. Emoji and other characters show as blanks.
